You Do Not Have to Be Perfect
After years of leading in boardrooms, mentoring executives, and surviving life's toughest seasons, I have learned something essential.
Leadership without self-awareness is not leadership at all. It is an act.
You can get the promotion. Run the team. Even command the stage. But if you are not grounded in who you are, you will always feel like you are chasing something that never comes.
True leadership does not begin when people follow you.
It begins when you stop running from yourself.
A Compass for Coming Home
Every time I have lost my footing, whether from illness, injustice, or exhaustion, I have come back to SOAR-M²™ — the empowerment framework I built from lived experience.
It reminds me that I belong in every room I enter. That pain can become purpose. That I refuse to trade my truth for approval. That when life says no, I say watch me. And that the moments that matter are the ones that reveal who I really am.
This is not theory. It is the compass I use in my own life and the framework I equip leaders with so they can rise through uncertainty.
It Is Choice, Not Chance, That Changes Everything
I have said it before and I will say it again. You cannot outsource your worth.
Titles change. Seasons change. People change.
But choice, that is yours. Always.
I did not step on a stage because I wanted applause. I stepped on a stage because I could not stay silent.
Because I have been the woman who broke down quietly in her car after a long day of pretending to be fine.
Because I know what it feels like to question your enoughness even when the world calls you successful.
I speak for the person still sitting in that darkness, who needs to hear that being "put together" is not the same as being whole.
Authenticity in Action
On a recent episode of Underrated to Unstoppable, I talked with leadership expert Alain Hunkins about what it really means to lead with humanity.
It was not about frameworks or titles. It was about the parts of leadership we do not talk about enough. Fear. Shame. Self-doubt.
Then he said something that hit deeper than I expected.
"As she opened up and shared something deeply personal, I realized I am not the only one. We are all carrying doubts, fears, and moments where we do not feel enough."
That kind of honesty is rare. It is what frees us.
When we stop performing, we start connecting.
When we stop proving, we start leading.
Before You Go
You do not have to be perfect to make an impact. You just have to be present.
So this week, choose to show up. Flaws, faith, and all.
Because leadership does not start when you have it all figured out.
It starts when you are brave enough to tell the truth about where you are.
