Choosing You
After years of leading in boardrooms and navigating some of life's toughest storms, I have learned that courage does not always look like confidence.
Sometimes, it looks like choosing yourself when no one else does.
We all reach moments where the path forward feels uncertain. Where circumstances seem to decide our story for us. That is when our power lies not in control, but in choice.
A Compass Back to Center
When life shakes us, we need something steady to return to.
For me, that is SOAR-M²™ — the empowerment framework I built from lived experience.
It reminds me that I belong in every room I enter. That pain can become purpose. That I lead with my truth, not anyone else's version of me. That I shift from Why me? to What is next? And that the moments that matter are the ones that reveal who I truly am.
I have found myself in those moments many times.
It Is Choice, Not Chance, That Changes Everything
Throughout my life, I have had to choose myself. Again and again.
When I went back to work after cancer, my husband reminded me, "No one cares that you had cancer."
At first, I thought that was harsh. But he was right. No one was coming to rescue me. To make sure that my return to work would actually work.
Choosing myself has never been about ambition. It has been about survival.
Choice, not chance, is not just a mantra I teach. It is the reason I am still here, and thriving.
And recently, that truth showed up again, in a way I never expected.
Authenticity in Action
A few weeks ago, I shared a post that began, "To my seven-year-old self: it was not your fault."
It was one of the hardest stories I have ever told. About surviving assault as a child, and the shame I carried for decades. The people I had to forgive who saw me slipping away and did nothing.
The post reached thousands. People wrote to say it helped them find language for their own pain.
But a few did not talk about the story at all. They talked about the photo. Me, standing beside a Bentley.
Some called it ostentatious. Others said it was not "on brand."
Here is what I told one of them.
How you start does not have to be how you end.
That photo was not about the car. It was about reclaiming my power.
About the woman who once hid, learning to be seen, fully.
Scars, story, and success.
If that makes anyone uncomfortable, so be it.
Today, I choose to stand fully in my light. Without hesitation. Without apology.
Because when we stop dimming our light, we give others permission to shine too.
