The Courage to Be Seen
Every leader eventually reaches a point where the definitions of success they have been chasing no longer fit.
Titles, achievements, and recognition lose their shine.
That moment is rarely comfortable. But it is always clarifying.
It forces us to ask, Who am I without the mask? What does success mean when it is rooted in truth, not image?
I know those questions well.
I asked them in the boardroom. I asked them in the quiet of my home. And I asked them when life brought me to my knees through illness, loss, and change.
The answers came not from chasing the next accomplishment, but from choosing alignment with who I really am.
Those choices shaped the leader I became and the life I continue to build.
The Compass That Guides Me
When everything around us shifts, we need something steady to come back to.
For me, that anchor is SOAR-M²™ — the empowerment framework that grew out of my own journey.
It is the courage to believe you belong in the room. The ability to see possibility even in the hardest setbacks. The choice to lead with your truth, not someone else's script. The perspective to shift from Why me? to What now? And the turning points where your choices create your impact.
This is not theory. It is a compass I use in my own life and one I equip leaders with so they can rise through uncertainty.
It Is Choice, Not Chance, That Changes Everything
We do not always choose the circumstances that test us.
The promotion that never comes. The diagnosis we never saw coming. The bias that follows us into the room before we even speak.
But we can always choose how we respond.
That is where power lives. Not in avoiding challenge, but in choosing courage in the face of it.
Not in waiting for perfect clarity, but in trusting the small voice inside that says this is the way forward.
The leaders who thrive are the ones who make choices that reflect their truth. Again and again. Even when it is hard. Even when the world tells them to cover up instead of lead.
Love at First Date
When I shared a story about my husband Greg on LinkedIn, I was overwhelmed by the response it received.
Thousands of people connected with it. Not because it was polished or planned. But because it was raw and real. It was me, being seen as I truly am.
On our first date, I knew I would marry him. Two weeks later, we made the choice. Thirty-five years later, I still wake up thankful for it.
Coming from a fractured family, I had no blueprint for what lasting love looked like. But sometimes intuition knows what reason cannot explain.
That one choice built a love and a life I could never have planned. Two daughters. Countless memories. A partnership that has carried me through every high and every heartbreak.
Greg has been my anchor. My protector. My safe place to land. He is home.
That post resonated so deeply because it reminded people of a truth we often forget.
Love does not have to be earned. It can be given, freely and fully.
And so can authenticity.
Before You Go
The lesson is simple.
Choose people who see you, not their version of you.
Listen to the quiet voice inside you. It often knows before logic does.
Build the kind of partnership, team, and culture that steadies you when the world shakes.
Because some decisions do not need a five-year plan.
They just need seven seconds of courage to trust yourself.
